3D to 2D

Parts of the map relief were cropped down and made into a digital pattern. When the pattern is zoomed out it creates this effect that give the visual effect if 8-but scales seen in the earlier renditions of video games.

Masked Identity

Memento

A circle was cut rom a piece of old wood. I chiseled a triangle out of the center. I chiseled an identical triangle out of a piece of fire brick. Using layers of copper sheets I used a propane torch to meld the copper down into the basic shape. I then proceeded to heat the copper and then hit it on the anvil and cooling it. After that I chopped the edges to clean them up. The piece was then sanded and polished. I put a layer of vinyl over the wood and applied a mix if gel medium and ink. the wood was then treated with polyurethane and then waxed and oiled to improve durability.

Map Relief

2 Large sheets of paper were cut to size. Lines were set 1 inch apart vertically and 1.5 inches horizontally. Paper was folded on those lines and new lines were drawn from intersecting point and alternated from left to right. those were the folded. Once folding was complete the paper was mounted on poster board and moved around to get the effect of a low polygonal mountain range. pushing 1 end of the mounted sheet will change it's entire formation. The effect of changing formation along with the way light plays on the different faces makes this piece dynamic.

Balsa Wood

The Idea for this was to create these geometric shapes. One of these shapes had negative space in the middle, the smaller one is filled in. This was used to represent scale trying to maintain a similar shape from the smaller shape to the larger shape. Balsa wood legs were put in place to sandwich the wooden elements between to support them.

This was sort of interactive piece which stood on 2 legs and rotated on the center pins. There are a series of triangles all rotating on the center pointy. This was to represent repetition. Similar elements were placed throughout the center point.

This has a backing of glue supported by 3 legs and a spiraling piece of paper.  The paper is the lightest part of the piece spiraling on 2 set pins. This piece is to show focal point. The eye is drawn towards the center lightest value making the paper the most noticeable part.

On Longing

"The body is the Primary mode of perceiving scale"

This image was taken when competing my first Adirondack peak. You don't really                   understand how small you are until you acknowledge the world around you at a larger           scale.

"Capacity of objects to serve as traces of authentic experience"

Having more objects to help justify an experience increases the person's credibility. This       photo was taken after a client meeting as a form of justification that the work for that client     was completed with satisfaction.

"The souvenir reduces the public, the monumental, and the 3-Dimensional into the      miniature, that which can be enveloped by the body"

Owning a souvenir scales down the size of an important piece of history or monument.         This photo is of a model of the empire state building scaled down into a tangible product.

"Nostalgia can not be sustained without loss"

In order for something to be considered nostalgic, you must have forgotten about it and it      becomes part of the past. This image was a social gathering at an abandoned fort which      consists of mustangs. Out of all of the people in this photo, I only see about 2 of them            regularly. This type of event may not happen again the way it did here.

"To have a souvenir of the exotic is to possess both a specimen and a trophy"

Having a foreign souvenir can help explain a culture or society. This image is of the time a    friend of mine from Greece got me a lighter from Athens as a birthday gift.
